Introduction Karen Oger's solo exhibition Vossenkunst

On 21 June 2019, artist Karen Oger opened her exhibition Vossenkunst at the historic site Bommenvrij in Nieuwpoort. During this memorable moment I had the pleasure of introducing Karen's work. Central to her oeuvre is the mid thirteenth-century Dutch beast epic Van den vos Reynarde. A story in which the animals, such as a fox, a lion and a raven, are attributed anthropomorphic traits. These animals appear as motifs in Karen's work in which they denounce our petty human traits. The introduction also discussed the importance of the sea for Karen's artistic pratice and made some links between her work and art historical phenomena.
